Los Angeles, California – Animal Support is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone providing information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or group responsible for the death and mutilation of several dolphins along the Northern Gulf Coast. Dolphins are immensely popular animals due to their high intelligence and playful attitudes. The protection of these friendly mammals against this evil mistreatment is of great concern to the community.

Authorities are on alert, looking for information about six suspicious dolphin deaths in the waters off of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. In recent months, three dolphins were found on Mississippi beaches with fatal gunshot wounds and the most recent was discovered on Mississippi’s Ship Island with a missing lower jaw. Dolphins were also savagely killed in Alabama where one was stabbed with a screwdriver and in Louisiana where another was found with its tail cut off.

The public, particularly recreational and commercial fishermen, can help by reporting suspicious behavior with dolphins in and around the coastal waters. Killing dolphins is a federal offense subject to a fine of up to $100,000 plus one year in jail under the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. Those with information are urged to call: the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) at 888-767-3657 or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at 800-853-1964.

Once the authorities are informed, please contact Animal Support via our Facebook page atfacebook.com/animalsupport.org [OR the Contact Us function on our website]. Provide your name, email address, a brief summary of the information provided, and the organization where it was reported. Please help us protect these precious marine mammals and bring the guilty parties to justice.
