Animal Support is a new sponsor of the Cedar Rapids’ AniMeals, an organization devoted to delivering pet food to owners who are physically or economically unable to obtain food for their beloved pets. Cedar Rapids AniMeals currently works with elderly pet owners in the Iowa areas of Cedar Rapids, Marion and Hiawatha, ensuring that their pets receive the food and supplies they need.

“It is generally agreed that older adults benefit tremendously from owning pets,” says Animal Support co-founder Julian Omidi. “The pets provide mental stimulation, decrease stress and encourage socialization. However, many seniors reach a point where they are no longer physically capable of providing for themselves – let alone their pets. Animal Support is pleased to partner with this organization, which helps keep hundreds of pets and pet owners happy and healthy.”

The original AniMeals organization was founded in San Diego in 1984, when a Meals on Wheels volunteer noticed that one of the meal recipients was using a portion of her meal to feed her dog. When two Meals on Wheels volunteers in Cedar Rapids noticed a similar need in their region, the Cedar Rapids AniMeals chapter was born.

The Cedar Rapids AniMeals (http://www.cranimeals.org) is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization operated exclusively by volunteers. It offers food and spaying/neutering assistance to pet owners who are receiving social security or disability assistance. Currently, it serves more than 400 pets monthly, including dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits and ferrets. Cedar Rapids AniMeals works closely with local veterinarians to subsidize spay or neuter procedures for dogs and cats enrolled in the program.

Animal Support (http://www.animalsupport.org) is dedicated to addressing pet over-population and abuse by promoting charities working on behalf of animal well-being. The organization was founded by brothers Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi to advocate for animal protection, rescue, adoption, and spay and neuter laws. Animal Support does not accept donations but encourages direct contributions of money and talents to the charities and organizations featured on our website.
